SEOQuake is a great little extension for Firefox. Like myself, I’m sure many of you use and prefer the Mozilla Firefox internet browser. One of the main attractions has long been the integration of features known as “Extensions” or “Add Ons”. In much the same way that “plug ins” provide increased functionality to your WordPress blog, these so called Add Ons work the same magic in Firefox.

Impatient? Watch the video now: SEOQuake Extension For Firefox

So what is SEOQuake anyway? Here’s a little blurb borrowed from their website: “SEOQuake is a Mozilla Firefox SEO extension aimed primarily at helping web masters who deal with search engine optimization (SEO) and internet promotion of web sites. Seoquake allows to obtain and investigate many important SEO parameters of the internet project under study on the fly, save them for future work, compare them with the results, obtained for other, competitive, projects.”

Got it? A little further broken down, SEOQuake allows website owners to obtain SEO info, in real time, providing measurable and comparable results. So if you were trying to compare two websites against each other, you would have a number of parameters from which to base your comparison.

Here’s a screen shot of what I mean, click on the image to open in a new tab. This is a Google search result for the term HostGator.

The Red Arrows indicate the instantly generated results. Notice the scroll bar underneath each result. This allows you to navigate through all of the SEOQuake parameters.

For example, if you were trying to rank for the term HostGator, you would now have detailed SEO information on all of the top 10 results (or as many as you like) in Google. This way you are able to plan your strategy for breaking into the top 10 accordingly. Start to see how cool this add on can be?

It also works on any individual page like the example below, click on it to open in a new tab:

There is a great deal of customization available which allows you to zero in on the exact parameters you desire. However, the default settings are more than adequate.

This is a great addition to your Search Engine Optimization toolbox.

Here’s the YouTube link again: SEOQuake Extension For Firefox

Are you like me? It seems like I have tried to avoid anything Microsoft for the longest time. With the exception of Windows, I have found alternatives for nearly every Microsoft application. So it’s hard for me to admit, but recently I’ve noticed the software giant becoming a little more friendly, especially Internet Explorer.

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

As far as web browsers go, I have been a faithful fan of Mozilla Firefox, and I couldn’t imagine using anything else. With the release of Internet Explorer 8, I have found myself “cheating” on Firefox a little, and “stepping out” with IE8.

I’m sure there are technical considerations I have never realized, and some very good reasons to support one over the other. But as an end user, I see the gap between the two closing. While I continue to prefer Firefox, IE8 is certainly growing on me. What about you?

Get: Internet Explorer 8

Get: Mozilla Firefox

Another cool, new, and free Microsoft application is Security Essentials. It provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

I don’t know if these guys have actually started listening or, dare I say, caring about their users, but both Security Essentials and IE8 are huge steps in the right direction!

After you vote, please leave a comment below.
